October 2011

Dear Worshipful Masters, Senior & Junior Wardens,

I am writing this letter to gain your support for the Grand Lodge Scholarship Program and your Lodge’s School Awards Student Recognition or Scholarship Program. This is a very important program that has a high visibility that recognizes the accomplishments, and in some Lodges awards scholarships, to some of the most outstanding young citizens of today.  I encourage you and your Lodge to continue to support this great Masonic Program.

The first step is to appoint a Committee, study the package of material, and then visit all the High Schools in your area. If your Lodge has not participated in the past and would like help getting started please contact VWB Steve Guffy at steveg@nwi.net or 509-662-7607 and he will be delighted to walk you through the process.

Your program may recognize juniors or seniors or both. The Grand Lodge Scholarships are awarded to both. Talk to the principals, counselors and/or the superintendent. At this time you should also schedule a program for the awards of recognition certificates, plaques and/or the scholarships. The Committee on Public Schools Outreach stands ready to assist you in any way possible to help make your program a very successful one.  Our goal is for all Lodges to participate and for students at every High School in the state to have the opportunity to compete for the Grand Lodge Scholarships.

We also ask that if your Lodge has a youth program of DeMolay, Rainbow or Job’s Daughters, we will be looking forward to receiving your selection of the Masonic Scholarship Application from those groups.

The Grand Master and our entire Grand Lodge Team place high emphasis on the children and our Public Schools. These young people are not only our future but the future leaders of our Communities, State and Nation. They are the future of Freemasonry and there is no better way to make a positive lasting impression on them than now when they are young and eager to learn. These awards and scholarships not only help to encourage our youth to further their education by attending a college of their choice, but also prepare them to think about their futures and the mark they will make in their communities.

It is the ardent hope of this Committee to see at least one of your area’s Students and an Educator of the Year Applications in the Grand Lodge Competition. Please call me or any member of the Committee on Public Schools if you have any questions, concern that I may be able to assist your Lodge with.

Fraternally,

VWB Steven L. Guffy,
Chairman
Committee on Public Schools Outreach
