THE EVERGREEN SUSTAINABLE HOUSE

South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity is proud to be partnering with three Masonic LodgeS in the South Puget Sound area in building the “Evergreen Sustainable House.”   Those lodges are Olympia Lodge, No. 1, Steilacoom Lodge, No. 2 and Evergreen State Lodge, No. 68. Thurston County has over 2000 families living in inadequate housing.   Habitat for Humanity is committed to eradicating inadequate housing one house at a time.  Brothers of these three Lodge came forward with their support so that one more family could live in simple, decent, affordable housing.   The home is open for tours during the “Olympia Parade of Homes.” The home is located at 1104 Brawne Ave. NW, Olympia, WA.

Student of The Evergreen State College “ECO Design class” designed the house. The house was designed to maximize the use of sustainable building materials and keep the house within a very tight budget.  This is happening.

This home has received the high praise from the Olympia Master Builders Association and is on their current “Parade of Homes” 24 July through 1 August 2004.  It was also selected as home of the Month.  In addition, it has been entered in competition for the Governor's award for Sustainable Buildings.  The House exceeds a Three Star Built Green rating by over 400 points. The house is also an Energy Star Home.

The Department of Natural Resources is using this home to show the public how to build a house that is “Wild Fire Safe in a Urban Area."

This is a quality home supported by a quality organization, the Free Masons of Washington.  Please come out, visit the home, and help complete this home.
