Margaret Kenrick, Past Supreme Worthy Advisor, International Order of Rainbow for Girls, passed away on July 15, 2004. There will be two memorial services:

There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, August 21, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 102 S. Tacoma Avenue, Tacoma. The reception for guests will be at Dryer's Mortuary; Directions below.

In addition, there will be a service with the Rainbow Girls and Ladies of the Oriental Shrine on Sunday, August 23, at Dryer's Mortuary at 2:00 p.m.

John A. Banas , 88, a recent transplant from Pennsylvania to the Pacific North West, an area he always loved, died Tuesday July 13, 2004 at his new home in North River.  He was born June 30, 1916 in Farrell, PA.  He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s.  He volunteered and proudly served his country during WWII as a radio operator on B-24’s in Italy.  He married Josephine Frantz in 1942 and they remained together until his passing – nearly 62 years.  John was active in the Masonic Lodge since 1947 in Sharon, Pa., and recently affiliated with Wynooche Lodge No. 43 at Montesano, WA, when he moved here.  Active in other Masonic bodies, he was a member of the New Castle (PA) Valley of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite (N.M.J.) and had been a Shrine clown loving the ability to bring a smile to people’s faces, especially children.  In Sharon, Pa., he had been a board member for both the local AAA office and the Salvation Army.  John is survived by his wife, Josephine, and son, James.  A private Masonic and military graveside service will take place in the Tahoma National Cemetery at Kent.  Arrangements are by the Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma.

V\W\ Phil Wainscott passed away early Sunday morning, June 13, after suffering from Alzheimer's disease and a recent stroke. Phil was a 3-time Past Master of Badger Mt. Lodge, No. 57, and served as District Deputy for District 21 in 1958-59. Masonic Services will be held at the Federated Church in Waterville at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 21.

Directions to Church: Coming in from Wenatchee on US 2, urn left on Columbia immediately after passing Shell service station. Proceed north on Columbia to W. Ash. Church is on the right.
Coming in from Spokane on US 2, watch for Catholic Church on your right and proceed straight ahead to Columbia. Turn left one block to Ash.

Don LeMaster, member of Crystal Lodge, No. 122, and Sultan-Monroe Lodge, No. 160, passed away this morning, June 4. Memorial services will be held on June 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Crystal Lodge.

V\W\ Leonard Soenke passed away on January 31, 2004. V\W\ Brother Leonard was a Past Master of Olympia Lodge, No. 1, and twice District Deputy in District 17. He was a member of the board of the MRC some years ago and served in various capacities with the Masonic youth groups. ;He was very active in Olympia Lodge until about a year and a half ago when he began having trouble walking and standing. He has been quite ill the past couple of years and has been hospitalized most of the past year. He was suffering from Alzheimers and was experiencing severe memory loss the past 8 months.

Lt. Colonel Leonard P. Soenke passed away peacefully on January 31, 2004. He was born December 23, 1916 to George and Olga Schuett Soenke. He grew up on a large farm near Walcott, Iowa, where he learned responsibility at an early age. He was a Sergeant in the R.O.T.C. at Davenport High School. Len majored in Engineering at Iowa State University. He was drafted into
the U.S. Air Force as a mechanic in June 1943. He achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel as an Air Force Pilot. He flew during WWI I with the 457th Bomb Group, flying B-17's out of England. He also flew troops and supplies to Korea out of Japan during the Korean War. Later he flew transport in B-29s and C-54s. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in August 1963, and moved his family to Olympia, where he continued to reside. In Olympia he remained active in many fields, salesman, Aeroporter driver, school bus driver, Past Master of Masonic Lodge #1, and volunteer at Madigan Army Hospital for eight years.


He is survived by his second wife, Grace Bauer Soenke; his daughters, Linda Sthay (Greg), of Seattle, Washington, Paula Kennedy (A. John), of Colbert, Washington, and Karen Soenke, of Newport, Washington, and her friend Larry Eik, of Spokane, Washington; his two grandsons, A. J. and Scott Kennedy, of Colbert, Washington; two sisters and brother, Hilda Kummerfeldt, of Wilton, Iowa, and Helene Wiese and Elmer Soenke, both of Davenport, Iowa; three stepchildren, Christine VanBerkam (Darwin), of North Dakota, Mycole Bauer-Olsen (Donald), of Kent, Washington, and Eric Bauer(Genie), of Sumner, Washington; eight step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.


He was dearly loved and will be missed by family and friends. Services will be at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on Saturday, February 7, 2004, at 3:30 p.m. Pastor Phil Rue will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be mode to your favorite charity.
